Doula Services

Getting Started--Initial Consultation free

Our first visit is free of charge and carries no obligation.  This is primarily a time to get acquainted.  We explore the possibility of working together.  You should feel free to ask me any questions about my philosophy, experience and services.  The right doula is out there for every woman, if I'm the right doula for you we'll begin this exciting journey together.  If it's not a good fit, I am happy to offer referrals to other excellent doulas in the area.

Pregnancy Consultations

These visits which may include any of the following:

o       Exploring birthing options

o       Articulating your goals, dreams and  fears surrounding birth, including working on a birth plan if desired

o       Access to my extensive lending library of books and materials related to childbearing and holistic health

o       Community resources and referrals to other groups, meetings, services and other practitioners

o       Guidance in understanding the birth process, positions for labor and birth, comfort measures, relaxation techniques

o       Birth Videos

o       Phone and email availability for questions, concerns and counseling

o       Holistic Health Services (see below)

o       Birth Team Visit is an option for one appointment.  This visit takes place during a regularly scheduled prenatal appointment near the end of pregnancy.  I can accompany you to a clinic appointment or if you are planning a homebirth, I will meet with you and your midwife and any others who you have invited to your birth.

Labor and Birth

I'm on-call for you 24 hours a day.  I also have a wonderful back-up doula, whom you are welcome to meet during pregnancy should you desire.  I like to keep in close touch near the end of pregnancy.

My style is totally flexible and geared to your needs in the moment.  I support and encourage partners to take any role they are comfortable taking. I take my cues from you offering at any moment, privacy, guidance or more intensive physical and verbal support. I meet you at your home when you feel that you need me.  For those planning hospital birth, we will stay home as long as comfortably possible utilizing a variety of positions and comfort measures.  When you are ready to go to the hospital I accompany you and remain with you throughout your labor and birth.  For those choosing homebirth, I will meet you at home whenever you need me and remain with you throughout your labor and birth.  I remain at the birth place for at least two hours after the birth to assist you with early breastfeeding and to attend to your comfort so you and your loved ones can simply focus on your new baby.

Postpartum Visits

 These visits take place in your home; so you don't have to bother with taking your new baby out. These visits include discussing memories, impressions, feelings about the birth as well as breastfeeding and parenting support, resources, referrals and holistic health care (see below).

Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding offer mom and baby so much; optimal nutrition to your little one, a special closeness and intimacy, weight loss and lowered disease risk for moms. It's such a joy to be with a new nursing couple as they learn this new skill together.  I am a trained and accrediated La Leche League Leader.  I have extensive experience and education surrounding breastfeeding.  While breastfeeding is natural it's not always easy and I will be there for you every step of the way.

Holistic Health Services

Near the beginning of our relationship we will have a detailed discussion of your health history and your current health.  This will lay the groundwork for our holistic work together.  Each visit includes exploration of natural health through personal education about nutrition, herbs and other modalities as well as administration of customized herbal formulas to promote your health and well-being.

o       Herbal Induction if necessary

o       Herbs during labor and delivery

o       Postapartum wellness herbs for mom including sitz baths and compresses

o       Postpartum herbs for specific discomforts (blood building, after pains, postpartum anxiety and depression, etc.

o       Herbs for the baby:  cord care, diaper rash, thrush, fever, colic

o       Herbs for breastfeeding:  low milk supply, mastitis, plugged ducts, sore nipples

Two packages are available to suit your needs and budget.


 Doula Package-standard:  two pregnancy consultations, , continuous labor and birth support, two postpartum home visits during the first two weeks, all recommended herbal remedies $550

 

Upgraded Doula Package:  four pregnancy consultations,   continuous labor and birth support, four postpartum home visits whenever needed during the first 3 months, all recommended herbal remedies $700


Payment in full discount: I offer a fifty dollar discount for families who pay in full by the second pregnancy consultation.

 


Homebirth

Homebirth offers the birthing woman the ability to labor and birth in the privacy and comfort of her own home surrounded by birth attendants who allow a woman's labor to unfold  in it's own unique manner.   For a healthy woman, homebirth is safe and offers freedom from unwarranted interventions.
